Albert Vogt (Byzantinist)

François Charles Albert Vogt (born August 5, 1874 in Geneva ; † October 4, 1942 there ) was a Swiss historian and Byzantinist .

Ordained a priest in 1899, he studied Byzantine Studies under Charles Diehl in Paris . In 1908 he received his doctorate from the University of Paris to docteur ès lettres. From 1910 to 1921 he was associate professor for first general, later modern history in the philosophy faculty of the University of Friborg (Switzerland) , 1919–1928 he was archpriest and pastor of Notre-Dame in Geneva. He then returned to Byzantine studies, including editions of Byzantine texts, above all a commented Greco-French edition of the first book of the book of ceremonies of Emperor Konstantinos Porphyrogennetos , as well as works on the Byzantine theater and the topography of Constantinople .

From 1908 Vogt co-founded the Dictionnaire d'histoire et de géographie ecclésiastiques (first delivery in 1909, first volume in 1912), together with Alfred Baudrillart (1859–1942) and the oratorian priest Urbain Rouziès (1872–1956 ); In 1910 he founded the journal Analecta Gallicana, Revue d'Histoire de l'Église de France.
