Albert Vogt (Orientalist)

Albert Vogt (born September 5, 1634 in Lippstadt , † June 4, 1676 in Greifswald ) was a German orientalist and Lutheran theologian.

Life

Albert Vogt was the son of the school teacher Johann Vogt and Anna Grothe. From 1654 he studied philosophy at the University of Rostock . He devoted a total of five years to studying Hebrew, Syriac, Arabic and theology a. a. with Matthias Wasmuth , Johann Georg Dorsche , Hermann Schuckmann and August Varenius . In 1657 he acquired a master's degree in philosophy .

After a short educational trip, Vogt was offered an extraordinary professorship for oriental languages ​​in Greifswald in 1660 , which was converted into a full professorship in 1663. In 1667 he got an extraordinary professorship at the theological faculty and obtained the theological licentiate degree the following year . In 1675 he became a full professor of theology and at the same time pastor at St. Jacobi ; however died a year later.

Albert Vogt was married to Maria Friedlieb (1641–1670), the daughter of the Stralsund superintendent. After her death, he married Anna Hövers in 1672.
