action

Mae Hartley and Gabby Harrison are super-intelligent 10th graders and best friends. With prom approaches, Mae tries everything to be close to her crush, Jaden. This brings her together with the popular Nevaeh Barnes. Mae simply claims to already have a boyfriend. Gabby and Mae are trying to figure out how to do this. It was then that Gabby had the idea of using the computer software of Mae's father James Hartley, who designs video game characters, to "design" a friend. Gabby succeeds in creating a virtual friend based on Mae's ideas, and names him Albert. However, complications arise and Mae's brother Bart has to help if he is allowed to go to the ball with Gabby. Albert actually shows up at school the next morning and every girl including Nevaeh gets jealous of Mae. Albert soon shows that he can throw faster and further than normal people. Bart tells Gabby that she created a robot soldier and hacked into the Pentagon . This leads General McFee to believe that the robot soldier was stolen by the army, as James needed a prototype of the soldier for his video game characters development.

Meanwhile Albert shows his feelings for Mae, because he is programmed for them. He asks her if she goes to the ball with him, which Mae finally answers with yes. However, this leads her to distance herself from Gabby, who is concerned about the loss of her best friend. Gabby tries to show Mae that Albert is just a robot, but she refuses to believe Gabby. Albert tries successfully to audition for the soccer team. Later at the soccer game, in which Albert is sitting in the stands with Mae, he is given the chance to play when a teammate is injured. Gabby uses this to take out Albert, but Mae prevents it.

The US Army soldiers, led by General McFee, come to the game to catch Albert after a power failure caused by three Russian criminals. The power failure caused Albert to delete the programming. Albert, Gabby and Mae are caught by the government.
