Albert von Bezold (born January 7, 1836 in Ansbach , † March 2, 1868 in Würzburg ) was a German physiologist .

family

He came from the Bezold patrician family in Rothenburg . He was the son of the Ansbach doctor Christoph von Bezold (1789–1855), royal Bavarian government advisor and district medical advisor, who received the Bavarian nobility recognition on March 9, 1843 in Munich with entry in the nobility register on May 19, 1843. The judge Gustav von Bezold (1829-1892) was his brother.

After Bezold had successfully completed his school years in 1854, he began his medical studies in Munich that same year . The following year he moved to the University of Würzburg . In 1857 von Bezold went to the University of Berlin to study with Emil Heinrich Du Bois-Reymond , where he became his assistant a year later.

In 1859 Bezold returned to Würzburg to complete his dissertation " On the crossed effects of the spine ". In the same year Bezold received a call to the University of Jena (as successor to Emil Huschke at the newly created chair for physiology), which he could only accept after submitting his dissertation and completing his doctorate. In 1864 Albert von Bezold founded the Würzburg Physiological Institute.

Bezold discovered the circulatory effect, the scientific proof of which was provided by Adolf Jarisch junior ( Bezold-Jarisch reflex ).
