Athletic career

Alberto Mamba first appeared in international youth championships in 2011. In July he started over 800 meters at the U18 World Championships in Lille. He was eliminated in the preliminary run, although he ran the season best with 1: 53.68 min. Two months later, he competed over the same distance at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Scotland, where he reached the semifinals. In 2012 he entered the next higher age group at the U20 World Championships in Barcelona. There, too, he was eliminated in the preliminary round and finished in 45th place overall. In 2013 he competed at the U20 African Championships in Mauritius. In the final, he stayed under 1:50 min in a competition for the first time and thus just missed the podium as fourth. Mamba has been competing with adults since the 2014 season. Right at the beginning of the year, he took part in the Jogos da Lusofonia , the games of the Portuguese-speaking countries, in Goa, India, over 800 and 1500 meters. He was able to win the gold medal over both distances, although the times were well above his best performances. In the summer he then competed for the first time in the Commonwealth Games for adults. He moved into the semifinals, in which he ran a national record of 1: 47.73 minutes. He came in 13th place overall. In August he finally appeared in Marrakech for the first time at the African Championships . After he increased his national record again in the run-up, he finished sixth in the final with 1: 49.63 minutes.

In 2015 Mamba competed at the Africa Games in Brazzaville. There, too, he made it into the final and finished in seventh place. In June 2016 in Oslo he ran the personal best of 1: 46.32 minutes, which has since been Mozambique's national record. Only a week later he started at the African Championships in Durban. After the preliminary and semi-finals, he came right up to his best time in the finals and ended up in fifth place. In August, Mamba, who studied at the Pedagogical University in his native Maputo, won the national championship title in the 800-meter run for the seventh time in a row, setting a new national record. In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games for the second time , this time in Australia. He didn't get past the lead and ended up in 21st place overall. Since then he has not participated in international competitions.
