Alex Howe (born September 9, 1989 in Laconia ) is an American biathlete.

Life and origin

Alex Howe is from Gilford , New Hampshire , where he attended Gilford High School. In 2012 he graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in organic farming , now lives and trains in Craftsbury , Vermont, and starts for the Craftsbury Green Racing Project .

His older sister Katrina Howe was also a biathlete.

Career

Alex Howe started cross-country skiing in middle school and is a multiple national junior champion. During his time at the university, he also skied for them. After graduating, he joined the Craftsbury Green Racing Project in 2012 and switched to biathlon in 2015.

He contested his first international biathlon race as part of the IBU Cup 2016/17 in January 2017 in Martell in South Tyrol . This was followed by participation in the European Biathlon Championships 2017 in Duszniki-Zdrój and 2018 in Otepää as well as further appearances in the second-rate IBU Cup before he ran his first races in the Biathlon World Cup in spring 2018 in Kontiolahti and Oslo . In the two sprints he was 68th and 89th and thus missed the points and the qualification for a pursuit race in some cases significantly. At the beginning of the 2018/19 season he started again in the IBU Cup, in the mixed relay in Lenzerheide he finished ninth together with Raleigh Goessling , Emily Dreissigacker and Hallie Grossman and thus achieved his first top 10 placement in the IBU Cup. Shortly afterwards, he competed in his first World Cup races at the home World Cup in Soldier Hollow , and in the mixed relay he finished ninth again with Jake Brown , Joanne Reid and Clare Egan , making it his first top 10 finish in the World Cup. He then took part in the 2019 European Biathlon Championships in Minsk and the 2019 World Biathlon Championships in Östersund . After finishing the first competitions of the 2019/20 Biathlon World Cup without points until the end of December 2019, he again only ran races in the second-rate IBU Cup for the rest of the season.
