Alex Megane (bourgeois Axel Jäger ; * 1978 in Greifswald ), also known as Alex M. , is a German DJ and music producer . He is particularly active in the areas of house , hands-up and trance music . He is also a founding member and today the only part of the trance project Cosmic Culture .
Career
Until 2004: Musical beginnings in trance
Jäger's interest was devoted to music from an early age. The main reason for this was the music lessons. He also took part in the school choir, ran an in-house radio station and wrote various second and third voices for school bands. He also played at school parties, which motivated him to produce his own songs. At the age of 17 he started with Amiga and the Pro-Tracker in 1995. On the PC he worked with Modplug, Screamtracker, Fasttracker and similar programs. Later he came across Reason to Cubase and Fruityloops, which were long his favorite programs.
Jäger published his first productions in 2001 under the name Cosmic Culture , together with Thomas Jahnke. The first single Our Future followed in 2003 . This was released on the German trance and hard trance label "Illuminati Records". In July 2003 Jahnke died in a car accident, whereupon Jäger continued the project on his own for the time being. At the same time he started solo careers under the pseudonyms Alex Megane and Alex M. In 2004 there were collaborations with the producer Tory Kay and the project Princess of Trance.
The first of a series of collaborations with the DJ producer Sebastian Wernke-Schmiesing alias Marc van Damme took place as Alex M. This was called Technodisco and was signed by the Hamburg record label "Mental Madness". In addition to the trance basis of both musicians, this production also shows traces of hard trance as well as of the later established hands-up. A remix by Rob Mayth in classic hands-up style has now reached over 15 million views on YouTube.
2005–2009: Commercial success & switch to hands-up
On April 4, 2005, he released the song Hurricane as Alex Megane , which refined his trance style. Like his debut single So Today, this was released under the pseudonym via the Austria-based record label "BE52 Records". The singer Kristine Notae appeared as a singer on both tracks. In a remix package, Rob Mayth and the dance project Cascada reinterpreted the track in hands-up guise. Almost a year later, the song entered the Danish single charts, making it Megane's first chart position.
In May 2005 his second collaboration with Marc van Damme Hava Nagila appeared . While he moved in the more aggressive area with this as well as with their debut, a calmer trance number with the project Cosmic Culture appeared in the same month with Oceans . At the same time he released solo singles in the house area under his Alex M. pseudonym on the "Mental Madness" label. With Strong he was able to achieve a respectable success across Europe. This style was particularly celebrated in Poland.
In 2007 he signed a contract with Jens Ophälders and Jens Kindervaters record label "YAWA Recordings" with his project Alex Megane. At the same time he developed the style of his solo projects in the direction of hands-up music. After a series of productions that represent this transition, a cover version of the track (I Just) Died in Your Arms and a rework of his success Hurricane in a new style were released in 2008 in collaboration with van Damme and Jorg Schmid . With the song Heart of Pain he took up his original trance style again with the project Cosmic Culture.
2009–2012: Focus on house music & debut album
2009 marked a turning point in Alex Megane's focus on the house genre. Under his pseudonym Alex M. he first published the song (I Wanna) Feel the Heat, a track based on the scheme of Dirty Dutch . In October 2009, the last pre-release single Let the Music Play , his, on December 11, 2009 released, debut studio album Let the Music Play, released . After this release, he didn't get back to work until almost a year later. This was done with the hands-up production Children of the Night , which was created together with Marc van Damme. At the same time his Hands Up EP was released , which contained a number of hands-up remixes from his studio album.
At the beginning of 2011 a new edition of the song Crazy Pipe by DJ Bomba from 2006 was released. In 2011 he made his debut with the single Emotions and his project Alex Megane in the commercial house field. In addition to the new style, a mix in the familiar hands-up style has always been produced since then. Since then these have been labeled “New Dance Mix”. He continued this scheme in subsequent productions. To this end, he also took part in the music video that has been viewed several hundred thousand times to this day. An English version of the track entitled One Million Feelings was also available on the single . It followed a similar pattern a year later with the single Atemlos / Beautiful Day .
In the summer of 2012 Megane and van Damme took on their song Rock the House again. The rework was released on September 21, 2012. This is based on the pattern of big room music , which was very popular at the time . Turn Me On presents a commercial house style production and includes vocals by rapper Carlprit and singer Caroline von Brünken . At the same time a compilation with the title 10 Years was published , based on his career start of almost 10 years. The album contains the producer's greatest hits.
Since 2013: genre variation
In 2013 he re-recorded the song Technodisco with Marc van Damme . Three new versions of the song appeared under the title Technodisco 2.0 . The original mix was melodically based on the original, even in the drop. The alternative mix is based on a dirty house pattern, while the club mix is inspired by Tujamo's big room style.
In September 2013 the song We Are the Colors was released , for which he once again brought the singer Caroline von Brünken into the studio. The title and the video are based on the Holi Festival , which was very much hyped at the time . In contrast to the previous singles, the style is rather calm. After the release of a new dance hands-up version, a 2K14 remix bundle was released the following year, in which the Sunloverz mixed the track in a big room style and Nick Otronic in a tech house style. Also in 2013 he worked with the German DJ duo Brooklyn Bounce . This resulted in the song Can You Hear Us Calling , which was released in October 2014. The track also represents the big room style.
In the spring of 2014 he published the song Heavenly Emotions , which he also appeared in big room and hands-up versions. He also worked with van Damme on a production that was stylistically based on the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The result was a reinterpretation of the song Carnaval de Paris by Dario G with the title Bang the Drum (Allez Allez) . A remix by Dan Winter was particularly successful. With Tide Is High , the third single with Caroline von Brünken was released on October 2, 2014 and the fourth with Bring Back The Night shortly afterwards.
In April 2015 he released the song Let It Go , which, in contrast to his previous productions, was designed much more calmly and focuses on a saxophone part that was very popular at the time. Only shortly afterwards his project Cosmic Culture was brought back to life. A cover version of Samuel Barber's world-famous Aidago for Strings . This, as well as the Miss a Day published a few months later, represent his classic trance style. A club mix mixes the title with traces of modern hands-up and electro house music. Waiting for the Sun is the title of another collaboration with Marc van Damme, which appeared in May 2016. This was produced in the typical big room style.
In the winter of 2016 the track Singin 'was released in My Mind , which was created together with Jay Frog and singer Kash. This only appeared in a Jay Frog and an Alex M. version. The latter represents Megane's first production in the field of future house music. With Work Hard Party Harder he returns to his typical commercial house style in January 2017 under his Alex M. alias. With Into the Blue , Alex Megane returns one step further to the roots and lets this track appear in the range from trance to hands-up music. The single also features a remix by The Nation for his classic Hurricane .
