Alexander Batliner (born October 24, 1967 in Chur , Switzerland ) is a Liechtenstein politician and was party president of the Progressive Citizens' Party (FBP) from 2009 to 2013 .

Alexander Batliner was born in 1967 in Chur in the canton of Graubünden as the youngest of four children of the Liechtenstein lawyer , financial trustee and art collector Herbert Batliner . He grew up in the Liechtenstein capital Vaduz and attended the local elementary school. He then attended secondary school in Wangs in the canton of St. Gallen and then the grammar school Institut Dr. Pfister, a boarding school in Oberägeri in the canton of Zug , where he received the Eidgenössische Matura type E in 1988. Batliner was now to Friborg to attend the local university law study. After two years of studies, he changed his field of study and began at the University of Bern German study. In addition, he studied communication science and journalism at the University of Freiburg. Batliner then returned to Liechtenstein and from October 1, 1998 worked for the Liechtensteiner Volksblatt as an editor for the domestic / political area. In 1999 he became editor-in-chief of the Liechtensteiner Volksblatt and thus also a member of the management board of this daily newspaper . He held the office until October 31, 2001. Batliner went into business for himself and founded his own company for communication and public relations in Schaan . From 2004 to 2006 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Liechtenstein Broadcasting Corporation .

Political career

In 2009 he was elected party president of the Progressive Civic Party. His father had already held this position from 1982 to 1986. In 2011 and March 2013, Batliner was confirmed as party president. In December 2013 he resigned from this office. His successor was Elfried Hasler , who will lead the office on an interim basis. In February 2017 , Batliner was elected as a deputy member of the state parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein . With the resignation of Johannes Hasler , Batliner has been a full member of the state parliament since November 6, 2019. Norman Walch became the new deputy MP.

In September 2014 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Princely Liechtenstein Order of Merit .

Private life

He has been married to the former ski racer Birgit Heeb since autumn 2001 and has two children, a son and a daughter. During his studies from 1994 to 1997 he was the founding president of the Liechtenstein Students' Association at the University of Freiburg. Batliner is the founding president of the International Sport Association in Liechtenstein (ISL), which he still chairs today. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Prince Franz Josef von Liechtenstein Foundation from 2005 to 2012. He has been a member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) since 2007. Since December 1, 2014, Alexander Batliner has been President of Sports Media Liechtenstein , which in turn is also a member of AIPS.
