Alexander Gottlieb von Seydlitz

Alexander Gottlieb Freiherr von Seydlitz (* 1700 in Neumark ; † May 2, 1782 in Greifenberg ) was a Prussian major general and chief of Hussar Regiment No. 8 .

Life

origin

He came from the noble von Seydlitz family . His father was a major in the Schulenburg grenadier regiment.

Military career

Seydlitz joined the Prussian army around 1724 , fought in the Silesian Wars and was lieutenant colonel in the Hussar regiment "Natzmer" in September 1746 when he received a precious Turkish saber from the Prussian King Friedrich II . A relative, later General Friedrich Wilhelm von Seydlitz , also served as squadron chief in this regiment . In September 1747 he became a colonel and chief of the "Hallasz" hussar regiment . He participated in the beginning of the Seven Years' War , but asked for his departure in January 1758 because of permanent back pain. Instead, he was promoted to major general in April 1758.

In March 1759, however, he was released with a pension of 500 thalers. He moved to Greifenberg , where he died in 1782.
