Alexander Jahr (born April 15, 1940 , † June 22, 2006 in Poland ) was a German lawyer and publisher .

Alexander Jahr was the youngest son of the co-founder of the Hamburg printing and publishing house Gruner + Jahr , who died in 1991 , John Jahr senior . Together with his siblings John , Angelika Jahr-Stilcken and Michael Jahr, he held a 25.1 percent stake in Gruner + Jahr AG through the family-owned Jahr Holding. After his death, his eldest daughter Alexandra took over his seat in the Jahr Holding.

At the end of the 1960s, he headed the picture + sound division at Gruner + Jahr. In 1971 he founded the publishing house Jahr . From 1974 to 1999 he was a member of the supervisory board of Gruner + Jahr. In 2000, Jahr Verlag merged with top special Verlag , a subsidiary of Axel Springer AG , to become the Jahr Top Special Verlag . In the same year, the publisher handed over management to his daughter Alexandra Jahr . Jahr Top Special Verlag is one of Europe's leading publishers for outdoor, sports and leisure magazines on topics such as fishing (e.g. blinkers ), flying , sailing , golf and equestrian sports .

Alexander Jahr was married and had three daughters. He was a passionate hunter , horse breeder and farmer . He owned his own ship with which he regularly went fishing.

On June 22, 2006 years died at his country estate in Poland to heart failure .
