Alexander Loichinger

Alexander Loichinger is a German theologian. He is professor for fundamental theology and religious studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

Live and act

Alexander Loichinger studied theology and philosophy at the University of Munich , where he in 1993 in Medieval and Modern Church History with a thesis on Melchior Diepenbrock (1798-1845) at Georg Schwaiger doctorate . His habilitation took place in 1999 in the subject of Fundamental Theology and Ecumenical Theology with Heinrich Döring with the text “Is faith reasonable. On the question of rationality in philosophy and theology ”.

From 1999 he took over the duties of the chair for fundamental theology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich as a senior research assistant and private lecturer , since 2004 that of the chair for fundamental theology and religious studies in Mainz . In 2006 he was appointed professor for fundamental theology and religious studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

His main areas of work are: Faith and Reason; Epistemology and reliability of religious experience, theology and science; Brain research, Christian image of man and freedom, theodicy.

Loichinger is a member of the Center for Ecumenical Research at LMU Munich.
