Alexander Loulakis grew up as the son of a Greek and a Hessian. From childhood Loulakis collected shellac records; From the beginning, his great passion was salon, café and dance music as well as jazz and swing . Loulakis was considered a recognized expert in light music from the 1930s to the 1950s.

He headed the Alexander Loulakis Getränkeevertrieb GmbH & Co. KG , which had as its seat the former building of the food retail chain Latscha in Frankfurt's Ostend between Hanauer Landstrasse and the Frankfurt Osthafen .

In addition to his professional activity as a beverage wholesaler, he organized popular nostalgia evenings in the Henninger Tower in Frankfurt am Main in the 1970s , where he was a shellac DJ and presenter. To this end, he invited the stars of the shellac era, who had meanwhile become his friends, to introduce them to his audience. These included u. a. Rosita Serrano , Otto Stenzel , Lys Assia , Kurt Henkels , Peter Kreuder , Maria Mucke , Kurt Drabek , Barnabás von Géczy and Evelyn Künneke .

The Hessischer Rundfunk soon became aware of these successful events. Since 1984, more than 500 productions of the series Schellack-Diskothek have been made , some of them still under the name Schellack-Party for the radio program hr4 . This public radio event, sometimes with live music, also went on tour and made guest appearances in many hotels and selected locations throughout Hesse. Since then Loulakis has been a consultant, producer, supplier of ideas and program designer for other public broadcasters in Germany. He regularly published CD productions (e.g. shellac discotheque) with sound carriers from his archive. His son Michael Loulakis continues to manage the property and is an art and watch collector.

Loulakis was honorary captain of the tennis department of Eintracht Frankfurt .

The Loulakis Collection

The collection of shellac records contains over 420,000 titles, making it probably the largest private collection in Germany. It also includes all devices from those years that played music, from funnel gramophones to jukeboxes and from people's receivers to radio with the magic eye .

The Loulakis archive in Frankfurt am Main can also be visited by appointment. It is located in the administration building of his company between Hanauer Landstrasse and Frankfurt's Osthafen .
