Alexander Morton
Alexander "Sandy" Morton (born March 24, 1945 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish actor.
Career
Alexander Morton was born in Glasgow on March 24, 1945. After completing his school career, he attended the Central School of Speech and Drama in London from 1965 to 1968 and began working full-time as an actor.
He achieved national fame primarily through his participation in the TV series Taggart , Second Sight , Between the Lines , Minder and Casualty , as well as through his roles in the films Croupier , London to Brighton and dramas such as The One That Got Away , Looking After Jo Jo , and The Man-Eating Wolves of Gysinge .
He became known to the television audience in particular through the roles of the gamekeeper Golly Mackenzie in the BBC TV series Monarch of the Glen (2000-2005). Before that, he also had several regular guest appearances in the 1980s and 1990s as Andy Semple in the Scottish soap opera Take the High Road .
Major theatrical roles played by Morton include the Scots performances of Macbeth in William Shakespeare's Macbeth and the role of RP McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest , both of which were directed by Robert Carlyle . Together with Carlyle, Morton had also founded the Raindog Theater Company. He has also worked regularly with the theater groups 7:84 and Borderline and has also performed at the Traverse Theater , the Lyceum , the Bush , the Royal Court and as a pantomime artist at the King's Theater in Glasgow.
Morton's fourth area of activity is the recording of radio plays . In 2007, for example, he spoke Count Dracula in the BBC radio version of Dracula (Voyage of the Demeter, 2006) or Inspector Rebus in the first adaptation of Ian Rankin's Rebus series. He also spoke voice memos for the video games Heavenly Sword , Witcher and Viking: Battle for Asgard .
In 2011, Morton was hired for the first time for spoken word passages on a music album, the concept album Helvetios by the Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie . Eluveitie front man Chrigel Glanzmann became aware of Morton through the film Walhalla Rising , and explained his motivation for the actor's commitment to the music press: “The idea of the text [spoken by Morton] is that an old man, who experienced the horrors of the Gallic War first hand on the battlefield in his youth , but survived all the war years, looks back at the end of his life ... and tells. "He also commented on the recordings as follows:
“We are happy and proud that we were able to win our dream candidate for these parts. [...] With his deep, rough and sonorous voice, Sandy is simply perfect for the parts on 'Helvetios'! [...] He put himself into the characters of the album, felt himself into the lyrics and conveyed the 'spirit' absolutely convincingly! "
Private life
Morton was married three times and has two children, Kerry (* 1970) and Jamie (* 1980). His first wife was the actress Pam Scotcher.
In 1972, Alexander Morton was the protagonist in a cartoon for the satirical magazine Punch .
