Alexander Stieda

Alexander Stieda (born May 30, 1875 in Dorpat , † August 12, 1966 in Holz near Gmund am Tegernsee ) was a German surgeon.

Life

As the son of Ludwig Stieda, Stieda grew up in the Baltic Sea Governments . He attended schools in Dorpat and Königsberg i. Pr. After high school he studied at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and the University of Königsberg medicine. In Königsberg he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. In the Prussian Army he served as a year-long volunteer doctor.

In 1899 he became an assistant at the Pathological-Hygienic Institute in Chemnitz. From 1900 he completed his surgical training at the University Hospital Halle (Saale) . In 1906 he qualified as a professor for surgery. In 1909 he was appointed senior physician and professor . During the First World War he served as the chief physician of a field hospital, then as an advisory surgeon at the General Command of the IV Army Corps . In 1918 he was reclaimed for surgery in Halle and in 1919 he moved into a doctor's practice in the Weidenplan sanatorium . In 1919 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . After he had refused a call to Dorpat, he was appointed full honorary professor in 1920. In 1931 he stayed in the USA for research purposes. After Friedrich Voelcker's departure , as a certified brain surgeon, he took over the main surgical lecture several times. In the Second World War he was from 1941 consulting surgeon in military district IV. In 1946 he was given a full professorship. 1950 with 75 years emeritus , he moved to Tegernsee.
