Alexander Georg Levin Freiherr von Vietinghoff called von Scheel (born June 15, 1800 in Königsberg , † September 30, 1880 in Cologne ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the 2nd division .

Life

origin

Alexander was a son of the Courland landowner Christoph Otto Engelbrecht von Vietinghoff called von Scheel (1758-1826) and his wife Friederike Amalie, born von Clausen († 1803). Lieutenant General Hermann von Vietinghoff (1829–1905) was his nephew.

Military career

Vietinghoff joined the 13th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on April 6, 1816 and was promoted to second lieutenant until the beginning of August 1818 . In 1839/40 he was assigned to the combined reserve battalion, then became captain and company commander, and in May 1847 he was promoted to major in the regiment staff. From mid-January 1850 to the end of May 1852, Vietinghoff was the commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 17th Landwehr Regiment and then commander of the Fusilier Battalion in the 16th Infantry Regiment .

On September 4, 1852, Vietinghoff received permission to use the title of baron. He became a lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1853 and was promoted to colonel on November 10, 1855 as commander of the 30th Infantry Regiment . This was followed by his appointment as commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade on July 8, 1857, and in this position he became major general on November 22, 1858 . On January 29, 1863 he was appointed commander of the 2nd division and promoted to lieutenant general. Under the star ceremony for Red Eagle II. Vietinghoff married Pauline Amalie von Rehbinder from the Sudnicken house (1800–1866) on April 12, 1832 . The couple had several children:
