Alexandra Bircken

Alexandra Bircken (* 1967 in Cologne ) is a German installation and object artist . She uses different materials for her work, often wood, wool, leather, metals, plaster, stone, as well as everyday objects.

“(…) Your objects and installations are fragments that, as excerpts, refer to something larger, and in which the combination of natural materials shifts our view of reality. Bircken's scenarios are open stages that reflect the conflicting relationship between people and nature and culture. "

Bircken studied at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London , 1990–91 art, 1991–95 fashion design and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honors). In 2004 she received a studio grant from the Kölnischer Kunstverein .

Alexandra Bircken lives and works in Cologne . Since 2018 she has been a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
