Alexandre Tassel

Alexandre Tassel (born March 26, 1975 in Angers ) is a French jazz trumpeter.

Tassel first learned the piano and only turned to the trumpet at the age of 18. He studied jazz at the Conservatory of Rouen and also attended the jazz clubs of Paris before finally moving to the capital in 1996.

There he founded the collective Nuits Blanches in the (now closed) jazz club Petit Opportun , through which he came into contact with many French jazz musicians ( Emmanuel Bex , Christian Escoudé , Baptiste Trotignon , Lionel Belmondo , Tony Rabeson , but also Archie Shepp and David Murray ) . In 1998 he recorded 49 minutes d'arrêt with musicians from the collective such as Trotignon, Vincent Artaud and Olivier Temime , which was voted one of the best records of the year by Jazz Magazine . In 1999 he went on tour with his production Booker (with Tonton Salut Jazz Futures , including Trotignon, Temime, the pianist Franck Avitabile ) and played at the Marciac jazz festival . In 2000 he founded and directed the Paris Jazz Quintet with Guillaume Naturel with Avitabile, bassist Gildas Scouarnec and André Ceccarelli on drums ( Introducing album on TCB Records ). In the same year he went on a worldwide tour with DJ Cam and recorded for Columbia Soulshine (with Trilok Gurtu, among others ). In 2001 he began working with Laurent de Wilde in his electro-jazz group Time for Change , with Stéphane Huchard , Minino Garay and the rapper Disiz la Peste. With Guillaume Naturel he recorded the duo album Fillet of Soul by Tassel et Naturel . In 2003 he toured with Manu Katché , with whom he also recorded, for example on the 2007 album Food for Thought (with Avitabile, de Wilde, Marcus Miller , DJ Cam, the rapper Guru). He is also represented on compilations of jazz lounge music such as St.Germain des Prés Café (Wagram).
