Alexei Lebedew ( Russian Алексей Лебедев ; * 1982 ) is a former Russian natural track luge who was one of the most successful in his country in the first half of the 2000s in the single-seater. He drove in the World Cup twice in the top five in the world championships twice in the top 15 was 2002 junior world champion and won in the 2005 World Championship silver medal in the team competition.

Career

Lebedev took part in international junior championships from 2000 to 2002. While he did not reach any top placings at the European Junior Championships in 2000 and 2001 , he became the single-seater junior world champion in 2002 . As early as 2000 he took part in a world championship in the general class for the first time in Olang and finished 24th in the single-seater and, together with Ivan Lazarew, ninth in the double-seater. After that, Lebedev only started in the single-seater at international competitions and was one of the most successful natural track tobogganers in his country in this discipline until the end of his career in 2006, especially at major events.

Lebedev contested the first World Cup race on February 11, 2001 in Moscow , where he immediately finished tenth and thus the best of the six Russians who started. His next World Cup appearances did not follow until the 2002/2003 season . This winter he took part in three of the six World Cup races, achieved eleventh place in Olang, ninth place in Moscow and fourth place in Kindberg, the best World Cup result of his career. In all of these races he was the best Russian, as well as in the overall World Cup, where he finished 16th. In the next two years there was only one World Cup competition. On January 25, 2004, he finished fifth in Moscow and on January 23, 2005, he was 15th in his last World Cup race in Latzfons .

At the World Championships in 2003 and 2005 Lebedev achieved the best World Cup results that a Russian had ever achieved in a single-seater. After Michael Kolesow's 17th place at the 1998 World Cup was the best result, Lebedev reached 13th place at the 2003 World Cup in Železniki and two years later even twelfth place at the 2005 World Cup in Laces, making it the best World Cup to date - Result of a Russian in the men's singles. At the 2005 World Cup, he also had another success when he won the silver medal in the team competition together with Jekaterina Lavrentjewa , Pavel Porschnew and Ivan Lasarew . Lebedev achieved the fourth fastest time in his run. In his three European Championship appearances, he did not quite come close to these results, but was always the best in his country. At the 2002 European Championships in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud , Lebedew came in 23rd, at the 2004 European Championships in Hüttau in 20th and at the 2006 European Championships in Umhausen - his last international competition - 22nd.
