Alexei Malakhau

Alexej "Losch" Malakhau (* 1982 ) is a Belarusian jazz musician ( saxophone , composition ) who works from Cologne.

Live and act

Malakhau grew up in a family of artists in Minsk . His mother, a classical pianist, taught him to play the piano at the age of five. At the age of twelve he became enthusiastic about the saxophone; between 1997 and 2002 he received lessons on this instrument. From 2003 to 2010 he studied jazz at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Wolfgang Engstfeld .

Malakhau belonged to the Minsk Youth Jazz Orchestra and the National Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus before he was accepted into the Bujazzo under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer . He worked with Andy Narell , Linley Marthe , Hiram Bullock , Kenny Wheeler , Triosence , Alex Sipiagin , Matthias Schriefl , Roland Höppner , Olivia Trummer , Martin Sasse , Jens Düppe , as well as with BAP and Brings . He also took part in several jazz festivals, such as B. Minsk Jazz, Leverkusen Jazz Days , Jazz Rally , Ingolstadt Jazz Days and Generations Frauenfeld. Together with the pianists Rainer Böhm and Kristjan Randalu , the guitarist Vitaliy Zolotov , the bassist Joscha Oetz and the drummer Bodek Janke , he recorded his debut album Leiblich with his own compositions, which was released in 2020 on Double Moon Records .
