Landgrave Alexis

Alexis Wilhelm Ernst von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (born September 13, 1829 in Burgsteinfurt , † August 16, 1905 in Herleshausen ) was paraged Landgrave of Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld from the House of Hesse .

Life

Alexis was a son of Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1784–1854) from his second marriage to Sophie (1794–1873), daughter of Prince Ludwig Wilhelm Geldricus Ernst zu Bentheim and Steinfurt . He followed his father in 1854 as Landgrave of Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld.

Alexis was a Prussian general of the cavalry à la suite , from 1866 a member of the municipal estates in Kassel and holder of the Prussian Order of the Black Eagle .

Kurhessen, including Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld, was annexed by Prussia in 1866 and Alexis, together with Landgrave Ernst von Hessen-Philippsthal, received a pension of 300,000 marks from the Electoral Hesse Fideikommiss in 1880 , as well as the castles of Hanau , Rotenburg and Schönfeld as a private affiliate of the Philippsthaler Linien.

Alexis married Luise (1829–1901), daughter of Prince Carl of Prussia , on June 27, 1854 in Charlottenburg . The marriage remained childless and was divorced on March 6, 1861, “by virtue of the power of the upper bishop by a ruling by the elector of Hesse”. Chlodwig (1876–1954), son of his brother Wilhelm (1831–1890), followed him as head of the House of Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld .
