Alfons Bauer (composer)

Alfons Bauer (born May 13, 1920 in Munich -Freundorf; † February 3, 1997 ) was a German composer and zither player .

Life

Alfons Bauer learned to play the zither at the age of 8 and recorded his first record at the age of 15. After leaving school, he first learned the hatmaker's profession , as his parents ran a hatmaker's business. He then studied piano and composition at the Conservatory in Munich . Alfons Bauer mainly worked in the studio and performed less live. For his innovative radio and record productions he put together different line-ups, consisting of professional orchestral musicians. Alfons Bauer and the accordion virtuoso Georg Schwenk, who also arranged numerous titles for him, have been working together for many years. By the 1950s he had sold more than 1 million records with his zither. Then he founded his own record company and worked in the folk music sector. He also wrote titles for other artists, for example for Maria and Margot Hellwig , Hansl Krönauer and Esther Egli . He composed over 200 titles. Alfons Bauer was also very popular in the GDR , where his titles were often played on the radio, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. Many of them also appeared on records. In 1972 he released a record by the famous GDR folk musician Herbert Roth in the Federal Republic of Germany .

Bauer also recorded melodies from Johann Strauss to Robert Stolz and Ralph Benatzky together with the James Last Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Orchestra . Together with Rudi Knabl, he was one of the most successful zither players of the 20th century.

He was married to the singer and folklore dancer Rita born in 1968. Fendt. He has a daughter from his first marriage.

His grave is in the forest cemetery in Gauting .

Honors

Alfons Bauer received numerous awards, including the Hermann Löns Medal in 1975 .
