Alfred Huber (born September 18, 1908 in Zurich ; † February 3, 1982 ibid) was a Swiss sculptor and painter .

life and work

Alfred Huber grew up in the city of Zurich as the son of a city employee. He broke off an apprenticeship as a structural draftsman because he wanted to become a sculptor. From 1930 he trained as a sculptor with Karl Geiser . At first he had his studio in Zurich. In 1970 he moved to Rümlang , where he also relocated his workshop. Alfred Huber created large sculptures in his second studio in the Valle Maggia in the hamlet of Ronchini in the municipality of Aurigeno . In addition to his sculptural work, Alfred Huber also designed bronzes , worked with enamel and was active as a painter .

Alfred Huber created striking works for public spaces, including a. for the Manegg cemetery, the trumpet angel or Die Liegende at the Waid municipal hospital . In collaboration with the architects Walter Moser and Karl Higi , Alfred Huber designed the altar areas of several churches in German-speaking Switzerland.
