Life
When Alina Herbing was seven years old, her parents moved with her and her three siblings from Lübeck to the former GDR border area in Schlagsülsdorf , a small village in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania where Alina Herbing grew up. She studied history and German at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald and literary writing in Hildesheim . She lives in Berlin and taught German in integration courses for women until January 2017.
Her debut novel, Nobody Is Near the Calves , was published in February 2017 , in which, according to Kathleen Hildebrandt in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, she “mercilessly clears up the romantic image of country life”. Gunda Bartels wrote in the Tagesspiegel : “The authenticity with which Herbing tells of the post-reunification generation, the natural racism, alcoholism, the clinging of men to traditional gender roles and the booming lack of perspective, she acquired in everyday life.” The novel was NDR - Book of the month February 2017. On the occasion of the Leipzig Book Fair, Der Spiegel counted it among the 25 most discussed novels of the literary season.
