action
17-year-old Jones is starting college. He meets his neighbor Jane, who is a few years older than him. She is a photographer, her roommate Lisa dreams of a career as an actress. Jones goes out with Jane one day and they go to a horse race. Jane refuses a relationship and a friendship develops between Jones and Jane.
Jones writes letters to his father, whom he never met. Since he does not know his address, he does not send the letters.
After a car accident, Jane comes to the hospital and Jones visits her. A former friend of Jane's, who lives over 3,000 kilometers away, shows up. Jane later decides to move in with her boyfriend. Since she cannot drive a car with her leg in plaster, Jones drives her. On the way, Jane goes to bed with Jones in a motel. Arrived at the destination, Jones fights with Jane's friend, Jane stays anyway.
Lisa gets a role and moves out. Jones discusses his father with his mother. Then he gets rid of the memorabilia from his father, including the typewriter on which he wrote the letters. Reviews
The lexicon of international films describes the film as an enjoyable coming-of-age comedy of the gentler kind. Irresponsibility and self-centeredness are discussed and shown how they can ultimately be overcome.
Christopher Null accused the film on filmcritic.com of the insufficient maturity ( immaturity ) of the script. Some elements of the stillborn plot are taken from the other films, the jokes are bad.
Shlomo Schwartzberg wrote on boxoffice.com that the film was yet another tiresome film about growing up. He criticized the portrayal of Elijah Wood and praised the portrayal of Franka Potente.
