All I Was is the first studio album by the US hard rock / thrash metal band Tremonti . The album was released on July 17, 2012 via Fret12.

Emergence

The guitarist Mark Tremonti ( Alter Bridge , Creed ) declared for the first time in 2010 his desire to release a solo album. By his own admission, Tremonti would write so much music that would not fit his two other bands and he would find it a shame if these songs weren't released. Situated opposite the German magazine Metal Hammer said Tremonti that his bandmates always with Alter Bridge and Creed with the ' eyes had rolled when he them his Metal -like riffs vorspielten and he then "We are not Slayer said!".

For the album, Mark Tremonti used numerous old ideas, such as the theme song or You Waste Your Time . Wish You Well even dates from Tremonti's time in high school . His main goal was to record what has always distinguished him and what he loves. It would be a combination of speed metal and melodies . Tremonti recorded the album together with the two Submersed musicians Eric Friedman (guitar, bass) and Garrett Whitlock ( drums ). Mark Tremonti also did the vocals. Tremonti used a three-month time slot for the recordings, during which Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy was on tour with Slash . Was produced All I Was by Michael Baskette .

In the lyrics of the album, Mark Tremonti deals with personal disappointments and breaches of trust. With the album, Mark Tremonti wanted to write some things from his soul that had depressed him for a long time. As an example, he cited bad experiences in the music business. From his experience, Tremonti took the business part for his solo band into his own hands and released the album on the record label Fret12 that he founded with his brother.

“There are so many people in business who pretend to be your friend. But behind your back it's all about that they benefit from you or want to take advantage of you. "

- Mark Tremonti

The album title All I Was comes from the song of the same name. When Mark Tremonti was looking for a title for the album, this title caught his eye. The music on the album would also symbolize the type of music that makes it up. The song Doesn't Matter is about not piling up your hatred and anger and getting over these things in order not to go wrong. The song Brains got its title in a curious way. When Mark Tremonti recorded the riff for this song, his then three year old son came into the room and kept shouting “brains, brains”. These words were heard on the recording, so Brains first became the working title and then the final title of the song.

Reviews

Christof Leim from the German magazine Metal Hammer certified Mark Tremonti that he “gave his compositions a steel infusion ”. The song Wish You Well “could also be from Metallica ”. Since Tremonti "delivered good stuff" with the album, Leim rated the album with six out of seven points. Boris Kaiser of the German magazine Rock Hard wrote that Mark Tremonti "succeeded in the balancing act of combining harder sounds with absolutely radio-compatible melodies". The music would "sound far less pathetic than in the master's two main bands," for which Kaiser awarded eight out of ten points. Andreas Schiffmann from the online magazine Musikreviews, however, said that “a quarter of the pieces, especially in the second half of the album, would be interchangeable”. Anyone who “loves designer rock music shouldn't fit here”. Schiffmann awarded nine out of 15 points.
