Mark Tremonti
Mark Thomas Tremonti (born April 18, 1974 in Detroit ) is an American singer and guitarist . He is a member of the bands Creed and Alter Bridge and releases solo under the name Tremonti .
Life
Tremonti began to teach himself to play guitar at the age of eleven. In 1990 he met Scott Stapp in Orlando . Tremonti himself was playing guitar in a band called Wit's End at the time . After graduating from high school, Tremonti went to Florida State University in Tallahassee for a year and studied finance , to no avail. But his guitar skills were so advanced that he founded his own band with Scott Stapp, to which Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips also belonged. This group became world famous under the name Creed.
The first song the band recorded was called "Grip My Soul". They founded a music publisher, "Blue Collar Records", and produced their first album, My Own Prison, with an edition of 6000 copies. Then they embarked on a US tour, initially with moderate success. The breakthrough came when a local radio host found out about the band and played the pieces. After that, the band gradually achieved worldwide fame. The second studio album by the group Human Clay is one of the 100 best-selling albums in the USA. Tremonti and his band received a Grammy for the song With Arms Wide Open .
In 2001 Tremonti got his own guitar model from the guitar company Paul Reed Smith . This made him the second guitarist after Carlos Santana , whose signature model Paul Reed Smith sold. He left Creed and started new projects, for example with Submersed or Troy Stetina . He also played as a guest in various other bands. Tremonti married in 2003 and their first child was born in 2005. The family currently lives in Florida.
Together with Scott Phillips, Brian Marshall and singer Myles Kennedy , he founded the band Alter Bridge in 2004 , which soon recorded and toured their first album, One Day Remains . Five years later, Creed teamed up again. The band Alter Bridge still exists, so that Tremonti acts as guitarist in two music groups.
Influences and style
Tremonti describes himself as a metal fan and names different metal bands that inspired him as a youth. These include Metallica , Celtic Frost , Anthrax or Slayer . At the same time, blues and rock guitarists like Eddie Van Halen or Stevie Ray Vaughan are among his favorite musicians. Tremonti also mentions bands as influences, including Soundgarden , Led Zeppelin , Journey or Black Flag , which cover a broad spectrum from progressive rock to grunge .
Tremonti has developed a varied sound that includes both metallic riffs and atmospheric fingerstyle melodies. Acoustic intros to songs are often characteristic. Examples of more metallic songs are What If , Bullets or Ode by Creed, as well as Find the Real , White Knuckles , Ties That Bind or Metalingus by Alter Bridge. Quieter parts can be found e.g. B. in Faceless Man or One Last Breath by Creed or Burn It Down and Watch Over You by Alter Bridge. Tremontis' music style is also assigned to post-grunge by some critics , which itself is a mixture of different styles, similar to alternative rock .
Tremonti has made it its mission to incorporate the guitar solo more into modern rock music. There are many guitar solos in songs by Alter Bridge, in which Tremonti sometimes plays extremely fast runs. Examples are Blackbird , Brand New Start , Slip to the Void or Open Your Eyes .
Solo project
As early as 2010, Mark indicated in some interviews that he wanted a solo album. Together with his friend Eric Friedman, whom he met many years ago at a music fair, he planned the realization of a solo album. Mark indicates that he has written some songs that don't fit the style of Creed or Alter Bridge, and that it would be a shame if they weren't released.
On April 6, 2011, Mark Tremonti officially announced the start of his solo project, called The Tremonti Project , on Facebook . As the front man, Mark Tremonti is not only responsible for the lead guitar for the first time, but also for the main vocals.
