Allan Guggenbühl (born March 24, 1952 in Zurich ) is a Swiss psychologist , psychotherapist and expert on youth violence .

Life

Allan Guggenbühl was born the son of the psychiatrist and Jungian psychoanalyst Adolf Guggenbühl-Craig (1923-2008) and a Scottish sculptor. His grandfather was the journalist and publisher Adolf Guggenbühl . He grew up in Omaha and Zurich. After training as a primary and secondary school teacher, which he completed in 1974, he trained as a classical guitarist in 1974/75 in Mexico City with Manuel Lopez Ramos. He then worked as a guitar teacher and musician before studying psychology at the University of Zurich and graduating with a licentiate from Detlev von Uslar in 1981 . He also trained as an analytical psychotherapist at the CG Jung Institute in Küsnacht and received his diploma in 1994. In 1997 he did his doctorate with Verena Kast at the University of Zurich.

Guggenbühl has been head of the department for group psychotherapy for children and adolescents at the cantonal educational counseling of the city of Bern and director of the Institute for Conflict Management in Zurich since 1984. In addition, he has been working as an analytical psychotherapist with his own practice in Zurich since 1996 and as a professor at the Zurich University of Education since 2002 . He developed the mythodrama , a group therapy method that is used in Georgia for the treatment of war-traumatized children and has spread throughout Japan .

Guggenbühl is a speaker, trainer and author of numerous specialist books and articles on the topics of conflict management , violence prevention , education and work with boys and men. He is married and has three adult children.
