Allan Janik

Allan Janik (born September 18, 1941 in Chicopee ) is an Austrian and American university professor of philosophy at the University of Vienna and the University of Innsbruck .

Life

Allan Janik studied Philosophy and Classical Philology at St. Anselm College, Manchester, New Hampshire, and graduated with a Masters in Philosophy from Villanova University . Ludwig Wittgenstein and Arthur Schopenhauer were particularly interested in his first work . He came to Innsbruck for the first time to find sources for his dissertation. He received his PhD in the history of philosophy from Brandeis University in Massachusetts in 1971 on the subject.

Through his work with Stephen Toulmin Wittgenstein's Vienna (1973), he became one of the most famous philosophers and historians in the field of intellectual life in Vienna around 1900. In 1989 he was appointed honorary professor for cultural philosophy at the University of Vienna . After his career in Austria and the United States, he continues to work as a research assistant at the Brenner Archive (from March 1995), as an honorary professor for cultural philosophy at the University of Vienna (from 1989) and as an adjunct professor of philosophy, skill and technology program the Royal Technical University in Stockholm . He has also studied mathematics, comparative literature and German studies at the University of Innsbruck at the National Autonomous University of Mexico , Jewish studies at the political and social sciences faculty at Stockholm University , philosophy of science at the Center Georges Canguilhem at Paris VII University and philosophy taught at the University of Graz and the University of Bergen .

He is a versatile person. At Innsbruck Kellertheater he worked from 1993 as chief dramaturge for which he an adaptation of King Lear as a game for two players under the title 1996 Cordelia Silence wrote. He publishes regularly in the journals Nexus (Netherlands), dialoger (Stockholm) and Central European History (Cleveland).
