Alois Gerards (born July 25, 1888 in Roetgen ; died January 3, 1971 in Aachen ) was a German politician and, in 1949 and from 1958 to 1964, district administrator of the Monschau district .

Life

Even before the First World War , Gerards was in service with the railroad . After doing his military service from 1917 to 1918, he was appointed to the service of the newly established Deutsche Reichsbahn on June 1, 1920 .

Gerards began his union activities also before the First World War. In 1914 he was the chairman of the Roetgen local group of the railway workers' association in the general association of Christian trade unions and from 1920 chaired the general works council for the 25-kilometer section of the Vennbahn from Roetgen – Kalterherberg through the Monschau district .

Parallel to the mentioned engagement in the railway workers' union, he joined the German Center Party . In this, too, he took on functions at the local level, so from 1918 he chaired the local group Roetgen and was a member of the local council from 1919 to 1929. He then moved to the district council of the Monschau district, where he belonged to the center faction until the National Socialists came to power in 1933.

After the end of the Second World War and thus the time of National Socialism, Gerards was a founding member of the Monschau district of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in 1945 . As a result, he was from December 19, 1945 to February 23, 1949 and again from November 9, 1952 to November 19, 1958 member of the district assembly. He was also a member of the City Council of Monschau and was acting city director from 1950 to 1952.

Alois Gerards was honorary district administrator for the Monschau district for two electoral terms. First from February 24, 1949 until the resignation of the district office and his district council mandate on April 1, 1949. And again from November 20, 1958 to October 8, 1964.

On June 23, 1963, the married father of four children was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit,  1st class.
