Hans Georg Weiss

Hans Georg Weiss (born October 9, 1927 in Monschau ; † October 20, 2008 there ) was a master typesetter , entrepreneur and politician ( CDU ).

Life

After attending elementary school and high school , Weiss was drafted into the labor service and the Wehrmacht at the end of the Second World War . After his return from American captivity, he learned the trade of typesetter and printer in his parents' small printing company . He did an internship at the Aachener Volkszeitung . In 1960, Hans Georg Weiss passed his master's examination as a typesetter at the Aachen Chamber of Crafts and took over the business from his father in 1962. He bought an offset printing machine and in 1966 founded the Eifeler Wochenspiegel as a free advertising paper . In 1969 he bought the first web offset press. In 1974 he finished metal typesetting and switched to photo typesetting. With the acquisition of the first 4-color rotary press, Weiss-Druck was at the forefront of technical progress on its centenary in 1975. Due to constant investments, the company and its holdings grew considerably in the years to come, especially with the involvement in the new federal states. Today Weiss-Druck is one of the most modern and largest offset printing companies - with printing locations in Monschau, Limburg and Hoyerswerda . The Weiss group of companies includes graphics and typesetting companies, distribution companies and internet providers. The Weiss Group's weekly mirror appears today in the Eifel , Hunsrück / Nahe , Mosel , Ahr and Trier areas . To the displeasure of the unions and not in accordance with the law, Weiss did not tolerate a works council or union members in his companies .

Hans Georg Weiss believed in the medium of "advertising papers" early on and in 1982 became chairman of the VVDA publishers' association. In 1987, through his commitment, the Federal Association of German Advertising Papers (BVDA) was founded, which represents all advertising papers in Germany, regardless of their ownership, as a unified association. Hans Georg Weiss was President of the BVDA from 1987 to 1997 and was made Honorary President in 1997.

Hans Georg Weiss became involved in the Junge Union early on , where he was district spokesman and later state treasurer. Together with Heinz Schwarz, he is one of the pioneers of the Junge Union's membership magazine “Die Decision”. From 1961 to 1972 and then again from 1975 to 1989 he was a councilor in his hometown of Monschau. He was active in the district council of the former Monschau district from 1961 to 1972, and from 1964 until the district was dissolved in 1972 by the first Aachen law , he was the last district administrator in the Monschau district. In the following three years he was deputy district administrator of the Aachen district . From July 26, 1970 to May 30, 1990, Weiss was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . Between 1985 and 1990, Hans Georg Weiss took over the chairmanship of the budget committee.

Hans Georg Weiss was district chairman of the CDU district association Monschau from 1967 to 1972 and from 1972 to 1975 and from 1977 to 1989 chairman of the CDU of the city association Monschau. The CDU Monschau appointed Hans Georg Weiss as its honorary chairman in 1990, and since 1993 he has been an honorary member of the CDU of the Aachen district.

In addition to many cultural activities, Weiss was also the initiator of the Monschau Festival at the castle there.

family

Hans Georg Weiss had been with Mathilde Weiss, born in 1952. Peters, married. Hans Georg and Mathilde Weiss have two children, a son, Georg Weiss, geb. 1959, and a daughter Dorit Schlieper, b. Weiss, born 1957. Georg Weiss became head of the Weiss Group after the death of his father, after Hans Georg and Georg Weiss had run the company together over the past few years.

Hans Georg founded several social and musical foundations. The Antoniusverein he founded takes care of disadvantaged people in Monschau.

Hans-Georg-Weiss-Strasse was named after the honorary citizen of the city of Monschau.
