Alois Riklin

Alois Riklin (born October 9, 1935 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss political scientist .

Alois Riklin is the son of bank director Joseph Riklin (1881–1957, co-founder and director of the Swiss Cooperative Bank in St. Gallen) and his wife Maria, née. Amann. He made the 1955 Matura in the Einsiedeln seminary . He then studied law and political science in Freiburg im Üechtland , Berlin , Cologne , Paris and Michigan . In 1959/60 he presided over the Swiss Student Union . From 1961 to 1963 he worked at the Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies in Cologne. In 1964 he received his doctorate from the University of Freiburg i. Üe., In 1969 he received his habilitation for international and constitutional law at the same university. From 1967 to 1970, Riklin worked for Kurt Furgler, who later became Federal Councilor . From 1970 to 2001 he taught political science at the University of St. Gallen , where he was vice-rector (1976–1982) and rector (1982–1986).

His research areas are the history of ideas and the constitution , political ethics , Swiss foreign and domestic policy and the foundations of political science . For his essay Montesquieu's liberal state model , he received the Fritz Thyssen Foundation prize in 1990 .

Alois Riklin is the father of the two artists Frank and Patrik Riklin.
