Alphonsus Cullinan (born May 7, 1959 in Lahinch , County Clare ) is an Irish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Waterford and Lismore .

Life

Alphonsus Cullinan first took up the teaching profession and taught for ten years in Castleconnell , County Limerick , and in Valladolid, Spain . In 1989 he entered the Irish National Seminary in Maynooth and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Limerick on June 12, 1994 .

After ordination, he served in the parish and hospital chaplaincy in Limerick. After a semester as a religion teacher at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick, he went to Rome to study in 2001. At the Alphonsian Academy , he was in 2005 with a thesis on Christian Anthropology and Utilitarianism in moral theology doctorate . After his return to Ireland he worked in higher education pastoral care at the Limerick Institute of Technology and from 2009 as diocesan director for the preparation of the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin . In 2011 he became pastor in Rathkeale .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Waterford and Lismore on February 2, 2015 . The episcopal ordination received his his predecessor William Lee on April 12 of that year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Cashel and Emly , Kieran O'Reilly SMA , the Archbishop of Armagh , Eamon Martin , the Archbishop of Dublin , Diarmuid Martin , and the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Charles John Brown .
