The old parish church was mentioned in the Liber valoris around 1300. The exact year of construction is unclear, but should be before 1300. At the turn of the 14th century, a three-aisled new building appears to have been built, from which the essential parts, tower and nave , originate. Choir and sacristy belong to the 15th to 16th centuries, the tower structure to the 17th century. The hall church has a floor area of 27 × 14 meters and was built from sandstone and brick . After the construction of the St. Laurentius Church at the beginning of the 20th century, the old church was no longer used and visibly fell into disrepair. Repairs began in 1935. The crumbled side walls were partially supplemented, the interior was cleaned of rubble and rubble, and an overturned pillar was erected again. In 2004 the local council decided to use the old church as a meeting place for art and culture even more intensively than before. An ideas competition was announced for further use and renovation. The old church received a new roof and has been used for cultural events since 2011, such as B. readings.

The later Prince-Bishop of Worms and Chancellor of the Palatinate, Ludwig von Ast († 1455), is mentioned in a document in 1423 as the pastor of this church.
