The old castle mill (also: " castle mill ") in Nieder-Modau in the southern Hessian district of Darmstadt-Dieburg is in the immediate vicinity of the new castle mill up the Modau . The mills were prior to the incorporation of Modau on 1 January 1977 Ober-Ramstadt in two independent communities and are still independent of each other (except for the stream of Modau).
history
In 1486 two mills are mentioned for the first time: "[...] two mills at Nidder-Modaw, which are built on our Eyenthumb [...]." Hans Thielmann and Hans Sehberg are the tenants. In 1549, Hans Eberhardt von Wallbrunn's possessions were named in the stock register, including a .: "four shillings from the Gertigen, located next to the mill across the brook, near the old castle." In 1617 Kaspar Hoffmann is a baker and miller at the mill. In 1629, a description of the Lichtenberg office says: "At Niedermodau a two-course grinding mill, belongs to the rider Matthes Lang zu Darmstadt, pays Hesse." During the Thirty Years' War , the castle mill is destroyed. In 1684 Heinrich Bernhard is named, who apparently rebuilt it as a grinding and cutting mill. The second mill had already gone under by this time. From 1787 the castle mill is called "Bernhard's Mill". 1788 Johann Georg Frankenberger, 1790 Nikolaus Frankenberger. In 1809 the mill was auctioned by Konsistorialrat Krämer from Reinheim.
In 1825 Wilhelm Klinger (* 1759, † 1827) is the owner of the mill. This resulted in the name change to "Klingersche Mühle". The mill burned down in 1828 and was rebuilt the following year.
In 1841 there was a legal dispute between Johannes Klinger (Alte Schoßmühle) and Heinrich Matthes (Neue Schloßmühle), the latter applied to set up a mill weir . The dispute will be negotiated before the court of appeal in Darmstadt. Due to this dispute, a calibration stake was placed between the old and new castle mills in 1870 . However, the process dragged on until 1875.
In 1850, a steam engine was used in the old castle mill to drive the mill. Johannes Klinger puts his family coat of arms above the arch of the gate . In 1869, 15 residents are counted in the mill in the Hessian residential directory.
In 1872 the name of the Alte Schlossmühle changes from the Schmalmühle in Fränkisch-Crumbach to "Bauersmühle" due to the marriage of Christiane Klinger (* 1854, † 1901) to the mill owner Friedrich Wilhelm Bauer (* 1845, † 1916).
In 1986 the mill was shut down by the Bauer family and sold in 1993.
In 1997 the Alte Schlossmühle again moved to the owner of a parquet laying company. The mill property is now a listed building .
