history

The first documentary mention of Altkirchen - Altkiriha - took place according to the traditions of the Hochstift Freising between 994 and 1005, when the unfree cleric Simon exchanged some properties with the Freising Bishop Gottschalk von Hagenau :

"Tradidit namque idem presbyter iam dictus cum manu sui advocati Adalhardi in manus episcopi et eius advocati Erchankeri arabilis terrae iugera XXXI in locis his Attinheim, Ennilhusa, Ichanhusa, Altkiriha, Keruuentelpetiter existiter existi sanctae Mariae sanctique."

- Liber Traditionum , B. f. 215.

“Because the same priest already mentioned has through the hand of his lawyer Adalhard 31 Iugera plowable soil in Attinheim ( Attenham ), Ennilhusa ( Endlhausen ), Ichanhusa ( Eichenhausen , or Großeichenhausen and Kleineichenhausen ), Altkiriha (Altkirchen) and Keruuenteleshusa ( Gerblinghausen ) Altar of St. Mary and St. Korbinian in the hands of the bishop and his lawyer Erchanker. "

- Liber Traditionum , B. f. 215.

In 1327, the village church of St. Margaret is mentioned for the first time in the land registers , the property registers of the Benedictine Abbey of Schäftlarn .

During the Thirty Years War , in 1632, Swedes sacked the village. Between 1634 and 1635 the plague claimed numerous lives, the plague column on Argeter Weg still reminds of this today.

Together with Groß- and Kleineichenhausen as well as Gumpertshausen , Altkirchen formed an independent political municipality from the beginning of the 19th century. During the municipal reform in 1978, the municipality of Eichenhausen Sauerlach was added. Nevertheless, Altkirchen has been able to maintain its cultural independence to this day. Altkirchen is still characterized by agriculture. The old farm names still in use today go back to the 16th century.
