Altstrasse Neuss – Herdecke

The old street Neuss-Herdecke was an old street between the Rhineland and Westphalia .

The route was an important trunk road from the early Middle Ages to modern times , connecting the Rhineland with the cities of Herdecke and Dortmund . The course touched today's municipalities of Düsseldorf , Erkrath , Haan , Solingen , Wuppertal and Schwelm . Here the trail met from Cologne coming Heerweg Cologne-Dortmund and united with him.

The path is not named uniformly in the literature, in part the Altstraße is called Römerweg . The route Wuppertal – Hagen – Herdecke is also known as Wupper – Ennepe-Strasse, the section in the Hagen area is referred to as part of the Cologne – Berlin road.

In the Middle Ages, the path served as the connection between the Gerresheim canonical monastery and its duty-bound estate in Sonnborn. In addition, the path was used for pilgrimages between Gräfrath and Düsseldorf.

Dusseldorf

Haan
Coming from Erkrath-Millrath, the streets of Millrather , Gruitener and Gräfrather Straße lie on this old street in the municipality of Haan . At Maiseiche , near the Bolthausen water reservoir, the municipality of Solingen is touched and another old street from Zons am Rhein struck this path.
Wuppertal
The Altstraße led in the Wuppertal / Solingen border area on today's streets Höhe and Roßkamper Straße past Haus Grünewald , in Klosterbusch near Schieten , Boltenheide the path turned north and descended the hillside. Several ravines and ramparts have been preserved here in the forest. On Schlieffenstrasse / Werderstrasse past the Hammerstein manor to Grotenbeck, right on the bend of the Wupper . Schwelm
Here the route met the Heerweg Köln – Dortmund coming from Cologne via Lennep and Beyenburg and continued to Gevelsberg , Hagen and Herdecke on the eastern Hellweg .
