Alwig von Sulz

Alwig von Sulz , also Alwig II von Sulz (* approx. 1530 - † January 4, 1572 in Ensisheim , buried in Tiengen ), was a landgrave in Klettgau , imperial councilor, captain and governor in Upper Alsace from the family of the Counts of Sulz .

Life

Alwig was a son of Johann Ludwig I von Sulz and had two brothers. He grew up in Madrid at the court of Charles V and therefore mastered the Spanish language. After his return from Spain he married Countess Barbara von Helfenstein - Wiesensteig (* May 25, 1534 - September 22, 1573) on December 7, 1556 , she was the daughter of Ulrich XI. von Helfenstein-Wiesensteig and his wife Katharina von Waldburg-Sonnenberg . In 1565 after the death of his two childless older brothers, he took over the rule. Of Archduke Ferdinand , he received the title of Imperial Council, captain and bailiff of the Upper Rhine. Alwig passed away in Ensisheim and was buried in the crypt of the church in Tiengen, the prince of Schwarzenberg had the body transported there with great pomp. They had the children:
