Alwin is a male name . The feminine form is Alwine.

Origin and meaning

It comes from the Germanic name Alboin ( albi → Alp, Elfe and wini → Freund). The origins can also be found in Old High German, Adalwin ( adal → noble and wini → friend). In English, the variant Elwin or Elvin is common.

The Longobard names Aluini, Aloin and Alemannic Aloinus already existed in the 8th century , so that one must assume that 'all-friend' is meant.
