Alwin Aschenborn

Heinrich Alwin Aschenborn (born April 18, 1816 in Zielenzig ; † May 9, 1865 in Daun , Eifel ) was a Prussian , German lawyer and district administrator , as well as researcher and plant collector in Mexico .

Heinrich Alwin Aschenborn was born as the son of the Justice Council Heinrich Aschenborn and his wife Wilhelma Kasser in Zielenzig in the Neumark . From 1826 he attended grammar school in Frankfurt / O. and from 1828 to 1836 he was a student at the Royal High School in Schweidnitz . From 1836 he studied theology and later camera science at the University of Greifswald as well as natural sciences at the agricultural academy in Eldena, founded in 1835 . The manuscript of a botany lecture by CE Langethal is in the Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem . In the winter semester 1838/39 enrolled him at the Law Faculty of the University of Breslau . Here he joined the Raczek fraternity in Breslau in 1838 ( beer name "Creole").

Aschenborn traveled to Mexico from 1839 to 1841. He spent a year traveling and spent a year in the Prussian embassy in Mexico City. He sent dried plants to Europe, making him one of the early collectors there. The Berlin Royal Botanical Museum in Schöneberg received a total of 726 plants in 1843, but only a few of them escaped destruction in World War II . Further specimens can be found in the herbaria in Brussels, Edinburgh, Frankfurt / M., Jena, Kiel and Vienna. These collections have been scientifically edited by CGD Nees von Esenbeck and Sebastian Schauer and a number of new species were published from 1847 to 1848. This also includes a new genus of the Asteraceae , which was named in honor of the collector Aschenbornia S. Schauer.

In October 1841, he again enrolled at the Law Faculty of the University of Breslau and received his doctorate there in June 1843 for Dr. jur. He then entered the Prussian civil service. First he was a trainee lawyer with the government in Wroclaw. In 1848 he was transferred to the Pleß district office , from September 1848 he worked as a district administrator in Neumarkt in Silesia . In June 1851 he was transferred to Daun in the Eifel ( Rhine Province ) as district administrator .

In 1853 he married Anna Louise Ottilie Rau. From 1853 to 1855 he belonged to the Prussian parliament as a deputy to. In 1855, Aschenborn founded the Dauner Kreissparkasse.

Aschenborn died on May 9, 1865 in Daun while exercising his official duties and was buried on May 12 in the local Protestant cemetery, where the grave is said to still be (Thomann 2010).
