Alwin Binder

Alwin Binder (born May 21, 1934 in Stuttgart ; † May 1, 2017 ) was a German philologist and literary scholar .

Life

After elementary school, Binder did an apprenticeship as an upholsterer and decorator , passed the master craftsman's examination in this craft in 1957 and stayed there until 1960. After graduating from the evening grammar school in Stuttgart , he studied German literature , history , philosophy and education in Berlin and Zurich from 1961 to 1966 . He passed the first state examination, did the teaching traineeship at a grammar school and after the second state examination in 1969 he became a study assessor . 1968 doctorate Binder in Berlin with a thesis on the Prelude on the Stage in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Faust . From 1970 to 1996 he taught modern German literature as an academic advisor and senior advisor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . Binder's main research interests include Goethe, especially Faust , poetry , children's and youth literature, and literary didactics .
