Amílcar-Cabral-Cup
The Amílcar-Cabral-Cup (officially Copa Amílcar Cabral ) was a football tournament for national teams from West Africa that was held from 1979 to 2007 . Until 1990 the tournament was held annually, from 1991 it took place every two years. The competition is named after Amílcar Cabral (1924–1973), a Cape Verdean politician and independence fighter .
In 2007, the 19th and final edition of the tournament took place from November 30th to December 10th in Guinea-Bissau . Participants were Gambia , Guinea , Guinea-Bissau , Cape Verde , Mali , Senegal (who came with its U-23 team) and Sierra Leone . The Mauritania Association withdrew its team before the tournament began.
The planned tournament in Mauritania was initially postponed from November 2009 to March 2010, but then completely canceled.
