Amadeus IX. of Savoy

Amadeus IX. (* February 1, 1435 in Thonon-les-Bains , today in the Haute-Savoie department ; † March 30, 1472 in Vercelli , Piedmont ) was Duke of Savoy .

As the eldest son, he succeeded his father Ludwig from the House of Savoy as Duke. Due to a serious illness of epilepsy , he thanked his wife Jolande , a sister of the French King Louis XI , in 1469 . , from. As a result, a civil war broke out in Savoy between partisans of the French and Burgundians .

Amadeus is considered a model of a Christian ruler and was beatified in 1677 . His shrine is in Turin . He is the patron saint of Savoy.

Amadeus IX. married in 1452 Jolande of France ( Yolande , 1434–1478), daughter of Charles VII of France and Maria von Anjou . The couple had the following children:
