From 1995 he was director of civil protection in the Ministry of the Interior.

The Nigerien President Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara was killed in a military coup on April 9, 1999 . Amadou Diallo became a member of the 14-member military junta formed on April 11, 1999 , the Council of National Reconciliation , chaired by Daouda Malam Wanké , who ruled Niger until December 1999. Diallo worked from April 21, 1999 to September 15, 2001 as Prefect President of the Niamey Municipal Association , which corresponded to an (appointed) mayor. After that he was initially a technical advisor in the Ministry of the Interior. In 2002 he became director general for civil defense and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel . Diallo was elected President of the national football association Fédération Nigérienne de Football in 2006 for a term of four years . He resigned in 2009 after the association had the football player Boubacar Talatou take part in the U-17 African Cup of Nations 2009 with an incorrect age .

On February 18, 2010, President Mamadou Tandja was ousted in a military coup and a new military junta, the Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy under the leadership of Salou Djibo , took power in the state. Amadou Diallo, who now had the rank of Colonel , became a member of the junta again. He worked as a government commissioner at the military tribunal . In the interim government formed on March 1, 2010 under Prime Minister Mahamadou Danda, he also held the post of Minister of Infrastructure . Diallo was removed from his post as government commissioner at the military tribunal on October 8, 2010, dismissed as a minister on October 15, 2010 and arrested on October 16. With Abdoulaye Badié , Aboubakar Amadou Sanda and Issa Abdou Sidikou, three other senior officers were arrested. The group was accused of trying to destabilize the regime. After the Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy handed over power to a civilian government under President Mahamadou Issoufou in January 2011 , all allegations were dropped in May 2011 and the four officers were released. Diallo then went abroad as a defense attaché at the Nigerian embassy in Italy .
