Amambay ( Guaraní : Amambai ) is one of a total of 17 departments in Paraguay . It is bordered by Brazil to the north and east , the Department of Concepción and Department of San Pedro to the west, and the Department of Canindeyú to the south . The capital is Pedro Juan Caballero . Amambay is sometimes referred to as the country's terrace because of the many hills that offer good views of nature . On some hills like Akua and Lorito Picada , indigenous petroglyphs have been discovered dating from 5000 BC. To date. In 1976 the 12,000 hectare Cerro Corá National Park was founded, on the hill of which the Triple Alliance War came to an end.

Amambay is divided into five districts.
