Boquerón is a department in Paraguay , it is the largest of a total of 17 administrative districts in terms of area . In 1992 the Nueva Asunción Department was incorporated, which restored the old conditions from before 1945. At the same time Filadelfia became the new capital (previously Doctor Pedro P. Peña ). Boquerón is located in the northwest of Paraguay, in the border area with Argentina and Bolivia . In Boquerón, the terrain from the Rio Paraguay lowlands slowly rises westwards to up to 450 meters in altitude - these are the first foothills of the Andes .
Most of the settlements of German Mennonites are located in the department : Fernheim , Menno , and Neuland . About a third of the population in the department speaks German.
The main industries are agriculture and livestock. Agriculture is mainly carried out in the Filadelfia and Loma Plata districts. The main crops are sesame , peanuts and, to a lesser extent, soy . Due to the increasing world market prices for meat, livestock breeding has increased significantly in recent years; the livestock rose from 290,000 to more than 1,500,000 animals.
