The Ameisberg (941 m) is a mountain in the west of the Upper Austrian Mühlviertel and the highest point of the so-called Ameisberg range (east of the Ranna valley ). It is located in the municipality of Atzesberg .
Surrounding communities are Putzleinsdorf , Sarleinsbach , Kollerschlag , Oberkappel and Pfarrkirchen .
Ameisbergwarte
At the summit of the Ameisberg there is the 24 meter high Ameisbergwarte, which offers a panoramic view from the Bohemian Forest in the north to the Alps in the south. The lookout tower was built in 1903 by the writer, pastor and dean Norbert Hanrieder together with the lawyer Moritz Scheibl, the adjoining inn the following year. The control room is one of the most important trigonometric points on the Austrian-Bavarian border.
Standing on top of the Ameisberg, it also adorns Atzesberg's municipal coat of arms : “In blue on a silver hill, inside three green fir trees, one by two, of which the top of the top protrudes over the hill, the golden east facade of the Ameisbergwarte. "
