Amenia is a town in the United States , Dutchess County , New York . A 2010 census counted 4436 inhabitants.
The name is derived from the Latin amoena , which means "lovely located".
The Town of Amenia is on the eastern border of the county. The city has train connections to New York City via the Metro-North Railroad . The local train station is called Wassaic , named after the village of Wassaic , which is part of Amenia.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 113.0 km², of which 111.9 km² is land and 1.1 km² (= 0.97%) is water. Amenia borders Connecticut to the east . The US Highway 44 runs through the northern part Amenias, and run primarily in common and in North-South direction NY 22 and NY 343 by Amenia. The Wassaic Creek flowing through Wassaic drains the west of the Town of Amenia .
