Varpelev Sogn is a parish municipality ( Danish : Sogn ) on the island of Sjælland in southern Denmark . Until 1970 it belonged to Harde Stevns Herred in what was then Præstø Amt , then to Vallø Municipality in Roskilde Amt , which was merged into Stevns Municipality in the Sjælland region on January 1, 2007 as part of the municipal reform .

254 inhabitants live in the parish (as of January 1, 2020). The church "Varpelev Kirke" is located in the parish.

Neighboring communities are Strøby Sogn in the north, Magleby Stevns Sogn in the east, Hellested Sogn in the south and Hårlev Sogn in the west .
