Americium (III) iodide is an iodide of the artificial element and actinoid americium with the empirical formula AmI 3 . Americium occurs in this salt in the +3 oxidation state.
presentation
Americium (III) chloride is reacted with ammonium iodide for the synthesis of americium (III) iodide .
properties
Americium (III) iodide is a light yellow ion compound consisting of Am 3+ and I - ions. It crystallizes in the trigonal crystal system in the space group R 3 (space group no. 148) with the lattice parameters a = 742 pm and c = 2055 pm and six formula units per unit cell . Its crystal structure is isotype with bismuth (III) iodide .
safety instructions
Classifications according to the CLP regulation are not available because they only include chemical hazard and play a completely subordinate role compared to the hazards based on radioactivity . The latter also only applies if the amount of substance involved is relevant.
