Amiloxate is a chemical compound from the group of phenylpropanoids .

Occurrence

Amiloxate is part of the spice lily ( Kaempferia galanga ) which is grown in Indonesia and southern China .

Properties and use

Amiloxat is a liquid, oil-soluble UV-B absorber with a broad absorption spectrum (absorbed at a wavelength of 280-320 nm). It is used as a highly effective UV filter for sun protection preparations. According to Appendix 7, Part A of the Cosmetics Ordinance, the maximum permissible concentration is 10%.

Amiloxat was included in the EU's ongoing action plan ( CoRAP ) in 2013 in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH) as part of substance evaluation . The effects of the substance on human health and the environment are re-evaluated and, if necessary, follow-up measures are initiated. Amiloxate was ingested because of concerns about consumer and widespread use, and as a potential endocrine disruptor . The re-evaluation has been running since 2016 and is carried out by Germany . In order to be able to reach a final assessment, further information was requested.
